OVERVIEW
I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, School of Economics, Finance and Banking, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). I obtained my doctorate (PhD in Economics) in 2006 from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, Master of Science in Economics from the same university (1996), a Bachelor Degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia (1994) and Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education Management from LH Martin Institute, University of Melbourne (2014). Currently, I am attached to the Centre for Testing, Measurement and Appraisal (CeTMA), UUM as a Director. Prior to joining UUM in 1995, I worked as an Assistant Director at the Human Resource Development Council and as Bank Officer at Bank Buruh Malaysia Berhad (later known as BSN Commercial). In 2007 I was appointed as a Director at the Institute for Economic Research, UUM. I am also a member of Royal Economic Society and actively involved in research and consultation works involving government agencies and the private companies. In May 2012, I was appointed as a member of the Expert Committee by the Ministry of Education Malaysia to investigate, analyse and provide policy recommendation related to the transformation of higher education financing in Malaysia. I was also appointed as a member of a Review Team of the Malaysia Higher Education Strategic Plan. In October 2015, I was appointed as a Lead Researcher for the project 'Financing Higher Education: Policy Options for the Commonwealth Pacific'. The main aim of this research is to come out with a Policy Paper on higher education financing for the commonwealth Pacific.
