Obtained Master of Commerce in Risk Management & Insurance from The University of New South Wales, Australia and a Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Insurance from Universiti Teknologi MARA.
Prior to joining UUM in May 2000, Shahrul Nizam was involved in the insurance industry from 1996 with an international insurance broker (Marsh McLennan) and a local insurance broker firm (Mit-Perinsima). Shahrul Nizam has held many administrative positions in student affairs and academic affairs, including Founder and Head of Risk Management Research Unit (now known as UUM Institute of Risk Management).
His current position is the Director of Risk Management Office where responsibilities include oversight of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Corporate Insurance Programme, Health Safety & Environmental (HSE), and Crisis Management (BCP & ERP) in UUM.
