OVERVIEW
Dr Nazim Baluch, a visiting senior lecturer from Canada, is attached to the School of Technology Management and Logistics. He has worked in the Canadian Automotive Industry, Magna International, and Supply Chain Management (warehousing) with hands on experience in ‘Manufacturing and Operations Management’, while implementing ‘LEAN’ axioms in management and operations. At Magna he was a key member of the “Operations Management Committee” that monitored company: Product Quality Assurance; Equipment Reliability; Production & Material Handling; Maintenance &Tooling; and Human Resource Development for the last several years. He was also involved in operations and certification of ‘Halal’ poultry production lines in Canada’s largest, fully integrated, and automated poultry production company. He attended Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology (a degree granting institution) and McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for his under graduate studies specializing in Mechanical and Maintenance Engineering Technology and Automation in Manufacturing. He obtained his MBA in 2004 from University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada and PhD in ‘Technology Management’ from UUM in 2012. He has authored several Journal articles, Conference papers and written two books: Maintenance Management Performance of Malaysian Palm Oil Mills (2013); and Innovation Imperative - Actualizing Ingenious Ideas at a Canadian Auto Metal Stamping Plant (2014), both published by Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany. His broad research interests include: Innovative Appropriate Technologies and Lean Management practices for sustainable development; Conservation and development that improves human well-being through sustainable natural resource management and use; Renewable sources of energy; and Recycling agricultural waste. He is actively participating in two, ongoing, research programs of Knowledge Transfer (KTP) at UUM funded by national grants. He is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Management.
